Key takeaways
- Paid AI visibility tracking plans started between 29 and 399 dollars a month in the public price lists we checked in October 2026.
- Questions tracked, engines covered and scan frequency drive the price more than any other feature.
- Size your budget as questions x engines x scans per month: 50 x 5 x 10 is 2,500 AI answers a month.
- Manual checks are free but cost time and miss sources; a tool pays off when you need history across engines.
Paid AI visibility tracking plans start between 29 and 399 dollars a month in 2026; questions tracked, engines covered and scan frequency set the price. Howseen, for example, starts at €39 per month (Starter, 20 questions); its Pro plan is €79 per month (€63 billed annually) for 50 buyer questions tracked every 3 days on 5 AI engines, with 15 GEO articles a month included.
Founders, marketing leads and agencies often ask me what a tool that tracks ChatGPT and Google AI answers should cost. The honest answer is a range that only makes sense once you know what you pay for. This guide breaks the price into parts, gives you a budget worksheet, and shows what checking by hand really costs.
Why the question matters now: when Google showed an AI summary, users clicked a traditional result in 8% of visits, against 15% without one, and clicked a link inside the summary in only 1% of visits (Pew Research Center, 900 U.S. adults, 68,879 searches, March 2025). When buyers read the answer instead of clicking, you need to know what that answer says about you.

How much does AI visibility tracking cost in 2026?
In the public price lists we checked on October 5, 2026, paid entry plans for AI visibility tools ranged from 29 to 399 dollars a month, and enterprise tiers are quoted on request.
Of the eleven tools listed with prices in our GEO tools comparison, seven start at 99 dollars a month or less and four start between 199 and 399 dollars. The entry price is only the floor: what you pay depends on how many questions you track, and on how many engines. For named prices next to ours, see our side-by-side comparisons with an analytics-first tracker, an enterprise platform, an SEO suite add-on, a low-cost monitor, a credit-based action center and an agent-experience platform.
| Price band (entry plan) | What it usually covers | Who it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Free or manual | Spot checks you run yourself, or a one-off report, with no history | A first look before you set a budget |
| 29 to 99 dollars a month | One brand, a capped set of questions, some engines included and others sold as add-ons | Single brands and small teams starting to track |
| 199 to 399 dollars a month | Larger question sets, broader engine coverage, deeper source data or managed services | Larger marketing teams and data-heavy programs |
| Custom quote | Several brands, custom regions and volume, SSO, dedicated support | Enterprises and large portfolios |
What drives the price of an AI visibility tool?
Nine levers set the bill: questions tracked, engines covered, scan frequency, countries and languages, seats, content features, white-label, API access and the billing period.
- Questions (prompts) tracked. The core unit. Every extra question means more AI answers to collect and store.
- Engines covered. Each engine needs its own collection. Some plans include one engine and sell the others as add-ons.
- Scan frequency. Daily, every few days, weekly or monthly. Answers vary between runs, so frequency buys reliable trends, and it multiplies cost.
- Countries and languages. The same question asked from France and the US can name different brands, so each market is another set of runs.
- Seats. Per-seat pricing grows with your team; some tools include unlimited users.
- Content and actions. Monitoring-only tools cost less than tools that also write, publish or plan the fixes.
- White-label and multi-client. Branded reports and client dashboards, sometimes sold as an add-on.
- API and MCP access. Feeding your own dashboards or agents is often reserved for higher tiers.
- Annual or monthly billing. Annual plans usually lower the monthly equivalent; read the refund terms before you commit.
How do you estimate your own AI visibility budget?
Multiply the buyer questions you care about by the engines your buyers use and the scans you need per month: that number of AI answers is what you are buying.
- List your buyer questions. Write the questions a buyer types before choosing a vendor in your category, such as "which CRM works for a 10-person agency". Start with 20 to 50.
- Pick the engines. Keep the ones your buyers use.
- Choose a frequency. Every 3 days is about 10 scans a month; weekly is about 4.
- Multiply. Questions x engines x scans per month = AI answers per month.
- Add markets. Multiply again by the number of countries or languages you sell in.
- Add the extras. Seats, white-label, API access and content production, only if you will use them.
Worked example: 50 questions x 5 engines x 10 scans a month = 2,500 AI answers a month for one market. The same set checked weekly is 1,000 answers. Compare plans on cost per tracked answer, not on the headline price. If you want to measure the result as a share of the answers in your category, our guide to AI share of voice shows the method.
Is it cheaper to track AI visibility by hand?
Checking by hand costs no subscription but costs time: each question has to be asked in each engine, several times, with the cited sources copied down, every cycle.
If one check takes you m minutes, a month of 50 questions on 5 engines every 3 days is 2,500 x m minutes. And because answers vary between runs, one check per question is a sample of one: a stable read takes several runs per question and engine. Our step-by-step guide on how to check if ChatGPT mentions your brand shows the manual method.
Sources are the hidden cost. In our study of 41,711 source links, Perplexity cited 17.4 sources per answer on average and ChatGPT 5.2. OpenAI's help center explains that ChatGPT can turn one request into several web searches before it answers with links (OpenAI Help Center), so the sources move with the query. Building your own tracker on engine APIs is possible, but API answers may differ from what users see in the apps, and you take on collection, storage and parsing.
My take, from building Howseen: start by hand. Ask ten buyer questions in ChatGPT and Gemini this week and see who gets named. A tool earns its price when you need history, sources and competitors across engines, not for a one-off look. (Raphaël Aubry, founder of Howseen AI)
What should you check before paying for an AI visibility tool?
Read the limits, not the headline price: engines included, question caps, refresh frequency, seats, per-domain pricing, add-ons and cancellation terms decide what you really pay.
- Which engines are in the plan, and which are paid add-ons.
- How many questions per brand, and how often they refresh.
- Whether you see the sources each engine cites, not just a score.
- Per-seat or per-domain fees as your team or client list grows.
- Trial terms, cancellation and refund policy on annual plans.

Frequently asked questions
Short answers to the pricing questions buyers ask before choosing an AI visibility tracker in 2026, from free options to agency costs.
How much does AI visibility tracking cost per month?
In the public price lists we checked on October 5, 2026, paid entry plans ranged from 29 to 399 dollars a month, and enterprise tiers are quoted on request. The plan you need depends on how many buyer questions you track, on how many engines, and how often.
Is there a free way to track AI visibility?
Yes. You can ask your buyer questions in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity yourself and note who gets named, and some vendors offer a free report or a limited free tier. Free checks give you a snapshot; they do not give you history, sources at scale or competitor trends.
Why do AI visibility tools charge per prompt or per credit?
Every tracked question has to be sent to every engine on every scan, and each answer is collected, parsed and stored. Prompts or credits are the unit that maps to that work, which is why question caps and refresh frequency move the price more than anything else.
How many prompts do I need to track?
Start with the 20 to 50 questions a buyer actually asks before choosing a vendor in your category, then add questions once you know which ones move. Fifty questions on five engines every three days already means 2,500 AI answers a month.
Is annual billing worth it for an AI visibility tool?
Annual billing usually lowers the monthly equivalent, so it pays off once you know the tool fits. Check the refund terms first. Howseen's Pro plan, for example, is 63 euros a month billed annually instead of 79 monthly (Starter is 31 euros annually instead of 39), with a 90-day refund guarantee on annual plans.
How much do agencies pay for white-label AI visibility reporting?
Agencies are usually billed per client brand or per domain, and white-label is either included or sold as an add-on. At Howseen it is 79 euros per client brand per month on Pro, with white-label reports included and volume discounts from 10% at 2 sites up to 25% at 25 sites or more, never below 50 euros per site.
